Growing methods
Our food safety practices are safe enough that our mushroom eaters won’t get sick from our produce. We also practice organic farming, ensuring health issues that potentially come from pesticides (and chemicals) are avoided.
Food safety
We use rigorous food-safety practices aimed at preventing bacteria (and even viruses) from infiltrating our mushrooms, including: sanitisation of all objects (including skin) that come into contact with the mushrooms (mycelium), pressure-based sterilisation of growing medium, wearing of N95 face masks when handing mycelium in open air, and purifying air using HEPA-grade filtering equipment. This is in addition to most food requirements (derived from the Act and the Code) that we comply with.
Organic farming
We assert organic farming is a better food-production system for everyone, worldwide, including future generations. We don’t use any synthetic chemicals during our mushroom growing, nor do we have any un-organic additives in our growing medium (the mushroom ‘soil’). Although our food safety does include running infection-control protocols, we attempt to do them substituting synthetic chemicals for other products & techniques.
Environmental sustainability
Our processes, such as marketing and delivery, are done using consideration of the environmental impact. We source materials from third parties that have a demonstrated consciousness for our environment (but not just via broadcasting their flashy credentials).
Our paper-based products are sourced from suppliers that incorporate high rates of recycled content in their product manufacturing, while delivery is via an e-bicycle (that has a relatively low carbon-to-delivery ratio as compared to normal vehicles), by customisation to allow larger load capacity. We also use commonly-manufactured products that retain most of their commercial value even after we will finish using them, reducing waste.
Regarding paper, it’s interesting to know that around 15% of the world’s forests are chopped down each year to make paper products. Forests take ~ 100 years or more to develop from seed, yet the resultant sheets made from them are discarded into the bin within a blink-of-an-eye.
